| These racks are great. A little tough to lift a 14 ft. kayak up on top of the van by myself, maybe rollers and saddles would be easier on a high roof. These work very well though, holds the boat very securely. |

| Was excited to get this as my crossbars are very close together and lateral stability was key. My board is 11'3" L 29.5" W and over 4" thick. Had everything set up all nice and neat until I tried to get the straps on. Except they are too short to hook on for my board. Don't see how any stand up board or thicker and wider board would fit with the included straps so I was back to standard compression straps. So much for the quick convenience. | This is a great product. I have 2 17 foot kayaks. One is narrower than the other, these adjust to the size of each one.
Easy to instal on the base rack. If you are using a bunch of different thule racks, one might want to have a separate set for just kayaks. I have mine set in place and I can get the entire rack off the car with the bars and the crossroad towers without having to reajust the settings of the kayak rack. | I purchased the Hully Rollers to take the place of a rear kayak saddle. I was having difficulty putting my wooden kayak on to my van. I thought that the Hully Rollers would make it easier to load. I didn't find that the effort was that much less using the Hully Rollers. The saddles worked as well as the rollers if I put a carpet over the back of the van and on to the saddles. I have to be more careful with the Hully Rollers so I don't run off them and drop the boat. I didn't have that problem with the saddles. ... Read More: |

| Just FYI, you can put two kayaks on with only one rack, as long as you buy some extra straps for the second boat. I bought two, since we have two kayaks, but only needed one. That said, I did need the second set of straps, ropes, and hooks. When we eventually buy two more boats (total of 4), I will only need to buy some extra straps and we will be all set. |

| I picked up this rack recently because I had to transport my 15' kayak on a highway at 70 mph for a couple of hours. Rack easily bolted to my existing factory crossbars on a 2005 Subaru Outback. The shape of the mounting blocks are made to adapt to nearly any factory, Thule or Yakima Cross Bars as far as I can tell. Once bolted on they feel very secure and I had no issues on my 4 hour trip there and back.

I can understand the impulse to save a few bucks by purchasing the landsharks or another brands saddles but don't do it. Why pay $3,000.00 for a fiberglass kayak and then beat the hull to death on your roof or worse yet lose the boat on the highway. Yakima mako saddles adjust to many different hull shapes, hold the boat very securely and provide a bit of cushion for the boat over bumps. | I've used the Thule 881 with tie downs about a half dozen times now and have no complaints. I have the rails mounted on top of my Wrangler, and the 881s on top of that, so my kayak is pretty high. To get it up I set the nose on top of the back of the Jeep top, then grab the rear T handle on my kayak. It's a simple matter to get it slid into place from there. I'm a little concerned that the rest pads of the 881 will break because I bend them some when mounting like this, but so far they are holding up. |
