| I upgraded from an earlier version of Filemaker Pro for my office. I like the ugrades and changes that have been made. We were operating on version 3, so there are many good updates.

| IMprovement over v1, but still has some bugs and issues. Many were present in v1. Filemaker has said they do not fix such bugs, only data loss. v1 has proven this to be correct as it has many bugs, some which prevent its use.
Other issues are you can only use Bento on one machine. Ever. If you move the database file to a new computer your address book and iCal data in Bento is lost. Any custom fields or smart collections are gone. NO syncing between multiple macs either. These ... Read More: |

| I have had Filemaker Pro 6 for years on my Mac. Use it daily. Never upgraded, but now needed new DB features, and was told by my programmer friend to get the new one. So, I bought the upgrade. It's fine except that you can't convert files from 6, because they changed the platform--something I found out after the fact, of course. My problem is that there was no warning that upgrading wasn't the right thing to do, that I should have bought new. I ended up having to upgrade the upgrade before opening it ... Read More: |

| THere are some serious flaws with this product. When I contacted Filemaker who developed Bento I was told that only bugs that cause data loss will be fixed. I have to live with the other issues or buy v2 which also has bugs that will not be fixed per this policy. Don't believe me? Check out their own web forums. |

| I bought FileMaker 9 Advanced and because of the draconian activatin policy I returned my copy to FileMaker for a full refund. I then bought FileMaker 8.5 Advanced on eBay. I am completely satisfied with 8.5. I will upgrade when FileMaker changes their activation policy. BTW I have owned FileMaker versions 2 through 7. |

| I recently changed from a more-capable database to Apple's Address Book so that I could benefit from System X and iPhone integration. I have a custom field in Address Book called "codes" that has keys for sorting different groups of addresses for mailing. I was disappointed to find that Address Book can't search on the contents of specific fields.
