| This version is deficient of many important abilities that decent video would need in the same way as FC 2 suite is packed with some programs and utilities majority of video don't need at all. Unfortunately there's no normality, no firm middle ground. I think Apple has to determine who is dedicated audience for the product.

| At first blush, Final Cut Express 2 (FCE2) looks very intimidating. The interface is much different from iMovie. I looked around and discovered that everyone recommend the book "Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop" by Tom Wolsky ISBN:1578202566. The book helped understand the interface and the power locked into FCE2. I have easily created several projects that couldn't have been done in iMovie and I did them quicker in FCE2.

| Though Final Cut Express 3.0 is not the latest in the line it was a steal at this price and works essentially the same as 3.5. The additional program, LiveType, that accompanies FCE is more than worth the purchase price. I've used it for several other applications aside from FCE since it exports as quicktime movies. |

| Aperture does not, nor did Apple advertise it to, be a replacement for Photoshop! Photoshop is the Emporor God of Pixel-oriented image editors (with a bit of object-oriented graphics thrown in). Giving the program a negative review for it not replacing Photoshop makes about as much sense as giving it a negative review for it not being a sports car! That being said, as a photographer, I end up opening all of my Canon Mark II ds 17 megabyte files in Photoshop to do minor tweeks and adjustments. You have to ... Read More: |

| my advice is to make sure you need it before you buy it, but if you know you need it, then buy it. How will you know? If you need it, you would already know that you do. If you don't know that you need server version, then you probably don't need it. Most day to day tasks are done by the normal version of the os in ways that are much simpler than the server tools. Now you do get a variety of nice things with the unlimited client, such as server managment systems, monitoring systems, etc., but if you are just doing a basic ... Read More: |

| Although this program has an astounding number of features, it also has an astoundingly high learning curve. Unless you are planning on shooting an actuall short or full length film, it is too much software. It is definitely not for the amature weekend videographer, and is best left for the pros. I use it only because my job requires it (courtroom tech support). Final Cut Express is somewhere between iMovie and FCP, and one fourth of the cost. Check out the reviews for that product.
