| Thank goodness someone still had this item. I bought it because I do not like Vista. My computer crashed and lost everything. Had to start over.
This was very easy to install and works like a charm. No problems at all. I would do it all over again in a minute if I had to. |

| I bought a new Dell XPS 1330 a few months ago which came with Vista as the OS and it's an inferior and buggy product. Here are the issues I've had to deal with:
1. Right out of the box, Windows would not shut down. Vista gives you something like seven options but all of them led to the same thing--the system froze. | Alas many service packs later and bugs ironed out, Microsoft moves on to another money-maker as Windows XP was finally becoming a very reliable operating system. Vista does have many nice new features, especially designed for the net administrator wannabe or average Joe who wants to try to setup a mini network in his basement. I am by no means an expert on the subject, as I am the type of person who knows computers just enough to be dangerous. | A lot of people have said "I don't know what's the difference between this and the full (retail) version." Allow me:
1- This is about half the $$. 2- If you get the full (more expensive version) and the PC (or its motherboard) dies, or you just want to replace (upgrade) it, you can move the (expensive) copy of XP to the new machine. | Having to reinstall Windows can be a bear, especially when you need to spend all day installing updates and service packs. This one, with service pack 3 shorts that job down to about an hour and a half total. The drivers are adequate and only required a few updates on specific peripherals. |

| My XP HP battleship finally could sail no more.. never gave Vista any thought actually..a few days ago the inevitable happened... plus the usb ports were becoming sloppy, white screen, but when it was good it was very good.. cut to the chase... From what i gather, buying Vista is a pant load different then purchasing a new computer. I am still amazed... my old XP would recycle sometimes, didn't like rollup 3, never thought I could use my extra's lke printer with Vista/new machine, the thing feches a program and my old close and play printer (all in one) ... | Generally speaking, to get the best performance from any operating system a clean install of a full version is recommended. The best choice is to choose a full version of the product and enjoy the benefits of not being left with artifacts and leftover's of your previous operating system which can lead to instability in certain cases. I would only buy this on a limited budget. |

| I needed to reinstall Windows XP, of course Microsoft doesn't allow using the same OS software code when you update your computer. My solution to it was to purchase the Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade disk and use that product code. It worked out great and my Windows was then activated by micosoft. It's as sad thing that Micosoft is so greedy and causes such problems. |
