| In short, this projector is a joy to have.
Easy to set up, control and with a great, sharp picture this projector has really won me over. I did a lot of shopping around before purchasing and it seems to have paid off. With 2000 lumens in it's brightest setting this projector works well in medium ambient light; however, we keep it set to the "Movie" mode which saves lamp life and provides for a more balanced picture. | I picked up the Sony VPL-VW40 to replace an aging 720p VPL-HS51 that has worked pretty well for over 3 years. One warranty repair was needed on the HS51 for a problem with the blue filter about a year and a half in, and it's now out of warranty and was also about due for another lamp replacement so it seemed like a good time to upgrade.
I was a little worried that the VW40 might not be bright enough since it reportedly has a little lower maximum light output than the Epson 1080UB (which I also looked ... Read More: |

| We've had this projector just under 3 years, and have had no problems with it. The only thing is that we have it down, so we don't use the remote but the actual buttons on the machine. I find that sometimes we have to re-adjust the focus, etc because we bump it. The focus gets bumped easily when putting the lens cover off and on.
As for the bulb, it just flashed a message up saying we've used over 1980 hours, so I guess it's time to re-order a new one (though i think we've had it on economy, so ... Read More: |

We have 2 other projectors at our company that were $500 or less, and their quality is substantially less than this machine. I keep this particular unit in house since it performs so well. It has connected easily with several different brands of laptops, although I have not been able to get our one Apple I-Book to display properly. (Probably user error.)
