| To many, this focal length may be the ideal length for portraits. For my particular skills it can be, as can it's sister lens, the 85mm, f/1.2L.
Be forewarned, this requires a certain level of skill, and a certain knowledge of the camera itself. Furthermore, I am shooting a 1Ds Mk III. | I started using the telephoto lens and when I zoomed in close to the action, everything looked slightly blurred. Cleaned all lenses and tried again and still the same. Lens quality was not great. The wide angle lens was awesome while recording on my Canon HF100... until I viewed the video and noticed that I could see a good deal of the lens edge on the right top and bottom corners of the tv. I couldn't see this through the camera lcd screen but it was obvious on the television.

| I am a amateur at this photography thing. With a little help by some friends, I am beginning to understand how to use this lens. For day shots, it has been great. Love it!! | This is my first encounter with a fixed-focal length lens from Sony. After having used the SAL1780 and SAL75300 zoom lenses with my alpha 350, I've finally decided to spend some money on the fixed-focal length SAL50F14, given the good reviews the lens have been receiving.

| From the moment I pulled the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 out of the box from the rental store, I wanted to keep it.
The build quality of the Tokina is far and away better than the popular Canon EF-S 10-20mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. More metal less plastic, so it just feels like a better product out of the box.
