| I received one of these as a promotional. Functionally, it was totally cool. I dropped it. It broke. Done.
It was a small drop. The type of drop my regular camera has experienced multiple times. The type my mobile phone has experienced multiple times. Etc. Nope. Dead. If you do buy one, buy yourself a case for padding - but the plastic is pretty thin stuff. Or buy yourself a camera that can do all these things and not break after a little wear and tear. |

| One caveat of note for the JVC Everio GZ-MS100 (and this may very well apply to other JVC models) the video files the camera produces are .mod files. These files are not read by XP Windows Movie Maker (JVC says VISTA has no problem with them, not confirmed by me) Also the software included is not for video editing and probably useless to anyone half way computer savvy. End result: without buying more software (maybe $70) you can't string together video clips, edit, etc. using what comes with the camera and XP. I'm using trial version ... Read More: |

| My parents have a JVC mini-DV camcorder, purchased several years ago, which works very well for them. Sadly, that camera works better for me than this one. That one does video through i.LINK, this one doesn't. That one uses conventional mini-DV tapes. On this one, the tapeless workflow is very nice, but only as long as you don't try to work with the video in anything fancier than the software included with it. Which, if you're on a Mac, means that it's iMovie or bust (bleh) because they give you a Quicktime codec and that's it. The TOD format isn't recognized ... Read More: |

| I owned a DCR DVD 305 previously and decided to take the next step.
Glad I did. Nothing compares to AVCHD. Except maybe real film. This cam is prosumer. I cont care if it doesn't look like an FX-7. The selling points for me were: 1. The assignable dial for manual control of shutter, exposure, focus, whatever you decide to assign to it. Having auto settings can be great but some shots require some tweaking and manual control is a must. 2. 6.1 mega pixel still shot. The 305 had a lousy 1mega pixel still shot. Not worth a darn. | Very good product. Video playback is very smooth and has enough resolution that everything is easily visable, FOR THE MONEY. Have to remember you aren't buying a top dollar helmet cam, it is what it is. I expected less features, and a much more unclear/choppy recording. The videos people have uploaded on youtube etc don't do it justice, a lot of quality is lost. Several of each type of mount is included, for mounting options in different locations.
