| I'm a fairly accomplished amateur photographer. I've got film from Africa, National Parks and other places, and have now put around 500 slides and negatives through this scanner.
It's *great*. The dynamic range is fantastic. 'Dark' images come through wonderfully. If it was unintentionally underexposed, the 16-bit color depth gives lots of room for adjustment. | This pen has saved me hours, possibly days, of writing and typing, and probably scores of hand cramps as well. It works exceptionally well; almost entirely accurate with just a little bit of practice. True, you have to be tethered to a computer, but for the benefits of the C-PEN, I don't mind taking my laptop to the library with me or sitting next to my desktop if I'm reading at home. | I've been using this device for about 12 months now and I'm happy enough with it. Perhaps in the future, I might try this product which seems to get stellar reviews:

| I was astonished at what this scanner could do, in terms of preserving the gentle tones of my black and white negatives. My only regret is that there is no equivalent to Digital ICE for black and white. That problem is not unique to this scanner, of course.
The quality of the images I get from this scanner, with negatives from a basic 1970-vintage twin lens camera, trounces the images I get with a Canon 5D SLR. I also have used it with 35MM negatives, which work beautifully, and with both 4.5cm x 4.5cm negatives ... Read More: |

| I only scanned about 15 rolls of APS before it gave up the ghost. Luckily, it has a 1 year warranty. I sent it off to Nikon for repair. The scans were for the most part fine. Oddly enough they're always rotated wrong, but that's easy enough to fix. Preview takes too long, so work off of your index prints. |

| This is easily one of the best scanners I have ever used. The color is good, but most of all, this scanner is FAST. It gets the job done faster than most scanners that are 4 years newer. When paired with Vuescan aftermarket software ([...]), I can create mutli-page PDFs with a single click and automate workflow, with calibrated color. Most reviews here center around the bad driver/software interface - to be honest I have never found any "bundled" scanner software to be tolerable. | I bought this scanner to do several hundred family slides. I found a refurbished one, and was able to get that with my limited budget.
The scanner came in an old box, and without the original packing - unlike other refurbished items I've bought before; which came in new boxes and with new packing. I was suspicious, but continued anyway, because I need to get the family's stuff done. I hooked it up and installed it per the instructions. | Although the Epson Perfection 2480 Photo (this one came along with Multi Phoot Feeder) keeps colors fairly accurate, I am disapointed when it comes to scanning photos, papers and the like on the flatbed. In this case, the area scanned is smaller than the glass plate indicates. Aligning any object to either side of the glass plate (using it's borders as the aligment tool) will unavoidably cut of part of the scanned image (as shown in the customer photos I uploaded.)
