| I saw a review in an audio magazine, and bought it because of the good
rating they gave it---It is a little too modern for me---I like straight ahead jazz, and I went through the bop era, but did not like it then either. If you like more modern jazz, you might like the CD----the DVD that comes with it is just watching the preparation of the CD in a studio and they just turned on a camera and paid no attention to levels or anything else. | Herbie Hancock takes classic Joni Mitchell tunes and makes them his own. Who knew that it would work so well? My favorite track is Court and Spark featuring Norah Jones on vocals. This is spell-binding. I heard this track on a plane, and immediately ordered the album. The rest of it is not quite as breath-taking, but well worth it, especially if you like jazz, and grew up on Joni Mitchell. |

| I thought 2006's "Mythologies" was one of the most creative "jazz" recordings ever, and one of the best c.d.'s of that year. When I heard that Ms. Barber was going from that Guggenheim-funded project to a c.d. of Cole Porter covers, I thought, "Huh?"
But in a weird sort of way, it makes sense. Say what you will about Patricia Barber: this is an artist who pushes the envelope. And discovering how to make new and fresh an idea that has been done a thousand times before is, in its own way, a creative challenge. ... Read More: |

| It's the best. My roommate from many years ago had the album. I had forgotten it until I read about the re-release recently in a review. If you want some peace and some beautiful piano jazz (sorta jazz?) Improv, buy this one. |

| When I discussed the Ric Burns documentary about the old West with an Amerindian acquaintance, I complained that the film concentrated on the Lakota, to the exclusion of other peoples. My friend answered that, as the Lakota was the best known native American culture, that was a good place to start, and the audience would then move on to learn about other parts of the story.

First of all, you have a great selection of standard, mostly secular Christmas songs: Rudolph, Here Comes Santa Claus, Jingle Bells, etc. But what really makes this CD for me is the line-up of jazz superstars.
