| Miriam Makeba was- is an amazing singer but this collection falls short. I would advise older original recording like: Africa, Pata Pata, even Live from Paris. You won't regret it. |

| I first heard some of this music in the 1960's when I was still living in England and my best friend had gone to South Africa for a year. She sent me a single with 'The Click Song' on it, because of apartheid she wasn't supposed to do that. I'm glad she did because Miriam Makeba has a beautiful crystal-like voice which moves me to this day. I don't understand any of the words, but manage to sing along anyway! This is a happy, uplifting CD, certainly worth owning. |

| There's little one can say about Miriam Makeba to those who don't have the privilege of knowing her. You have to listen first. I consider myself twice as fortunate, as I was a small boy when her songs started to play on the radio in Brazil. This album in particular has a long story with me, but to make it short, I'd say that if you like the vibe and charm of real African music, it's a must. |

| This combined CD of Miriam Makeba's first and second LPs has the wonder of forward thinking and backward bliss. Hardly sold at time, the first LP, "Miriam Makeba" was a part of the US folk eagerness to hear new sounds. Like Harry Belefonte before her, there was a market for pleasant new rhythms and exotic but true belief.

| I bought this to teach students more about music in different African countries and found the music very addictive and upbeat. One thing that would have made this (and many other Putumayo CDs) better would be if Putumayo provided full translation of the lyrics. Some songs (e.g. Jambo Bwana, Battu, etc.) only had translations for one paragraph of the lyrics while other songs did not have any translations at all (e.g. Mbube, Hello Hello). |

| As a fan of the Tuareg group "Tinariwen', I couldn't resist buying this CD when I saw that another famous native of their region hooked up with Ry Cooder. If you've ever listened to Ry's soundtrack works or his wonderful stuff on 'A Meeting by the River' or "The Buena Vista Social Club' then you'll know why he is such a great match for a veteran like Mr. Toure. Ry's son , Joachim, is a good addition with his drum work too!
