| I have listened to Joan Baez songs since I was in grammar school and I am just as much in awe of her voice now as I was then (the sixties). Persoanlly I appreciate the more religious tones of the CD. After the recent political roller coaster that we have been on it is nice to be able to sit down, listen to music that actually talks to our thoughts, and relax our spirits. | Bought this CD as USED but it looks and sounds as good as new. This music is haunting, beautiful, or charming...depending on the specific tune. This is really pre-country / bluegrass classical folk stuff. You will either understand its origins and love it, or think it is stupid. |

| This record is a great set of songs sung beautifully by the wonderful singer Alison Krauss. I discovered Alison Krauss when I bought last year's release "Raising Sand", the album of duets with Led Zeppelin's lead singer Robert Plant. The purity and tone of Alison's voice on that record made me curious to hear her other work and this is a great example. She plays a mean fiddle too! I actually prefer this record to Raising Sand. | Bluegrass/folk style, clever lyrics, but don't confuse them with the Band, Dead or even Dylan. They need more instrumental stretches, because they are really skillful players. |

| I had never heard of Dar Williams before hearing an interview with her on NPR. Intrigued by the pieces of songs played as part of that interview, I bought Promised Land.
It contains a wonderfully varied set of songs, all with interesting settings and well sung. Williams has a wonderful voice that she uses well to enhance both the sound her music and the meaning behind the lyrics -- although sometimes that makes it hard to hear the exact words. | This is a rare combination of quality and quantity. There are a lot of good songs, mostly because GL wrote and performed so well. Obviousy it is still a small fraction of the songs that he wrote in total, but I like the ones they included. Just from listening, the recordings all seem to be in a studio, so the quality is good. |
