| This is awesome. I recommend this product. My step-father is 75 years old and he loves Johnny Cash. He nearly cried when I gave it to him; he was so grateful. He played the music and it captured Johnny Cash's earlier days and also later. I enjoyed it also. |

| If you like your western music the way I like my whiskey (straight), then look elsewhere. Let's face it, how many times have you seen a full orchestra sitting around the campfire? One normally envisions a guitar or two, and maybe a harmonica or concertina squeezebox. That being said, this CD is remarkable on several fronts.

| There are some truly haunting performances here, and some funny ones, and some of everything, really. This stuff is so far deeper and weirder and spookier than any folk I've ever heard. It's the motherlode; Harry Smith wandered around and got these recordings before radio started, and thus we get true folk music, passed down the generations and from that area, or from the motherland of the musicians, with the spirit of the New World.

| Sure, the songs don't age well, but they were never meant to. This is a period piece and should be appreciated as such. It's beautiful '70s country orchestra craftsmanship and great spoken-word lyrics with awesome comic timing. Extra points for songs that were so prescient about environmentalism and the disappearance of open space, like "There Won't Be No Country Music", though WOLF CREEK PASS's "Old 30" and "Glenwood Canyon" hit that note even better -- just part of the reason it's such a shame that album's out of print/unavailable ... | As a child I was given the record and loved it. Years later I used it in my kindergarten classroom at Christmas. My school building burned to the ground on Christmas Day of 1983. I was so devastated to loose the record in the fire. I was thrilled when I saw it available on Amazon. The CD is so great. It brought back so many memories. Thanks so much. |
