| It's just magical what this man has done, can do and continues to do even into his 80's. I've listened to Sonny since my youth and have seen him on a number of occasions. He is on fire on these live recordings and lifts the roof on the Tenor Madness cut. This the one he did with Coltrane in the 56. His group is superior and anyone who likes jazz must own this. | I've just "discovered" Javier Colina here in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America, during the Jazz Tour Festival in September 2008.
I was absolutely amazed by his technique, his swing and his joy in making music. Once at home after the concert I found this CD in Amazon and I said to myself: These two men together must be dynamite. | First of all, I was blown away by the recording. The ambience of the audience only adds to the feeling that you are right there, front row, listening, watching three guys ripping it. This is truly one of the best live recordings I have heard, jazz or otherwise. The reperoire between the musicians seems almost telepathic, but the audience doesnt really appreciate the specialness of what they are hearing. | It's the best. My roommate from many years ago had the album. I had forgotten it until I read about the re-release recently in a review. If you want some peace and some beautiful piano jazz (sorta jazz?) Improv, buy this one. |

| I ordered this CD a week or so ago,
but did not have the time to listen to it until last night. I had really looked forward to this historic recording, as I have heard some of the 'tracks' before. A great live musical perfomance by renown and legendary musical genius. But every track- except one- has a 'dropoff' or 'cutout' of the audio at the very end. | Sometimes live performances don't live up to to their studio counterparts, but in this case Krall adds dimension and depth to her already formidable studio recordings. Dexterously inventive, she puts improvisation back into jazz-isn't that is what jazz is all about? You'll recognize all the old standards, and some super arrangements. She knows how to swing and her up-tempo version of 'Devil May Care', to my ears, is slick and simply dazzling.

| I saw Charles Lloyd with this quartet last year so it was a real pleasure to find a live recording. He has done so much over the years, from his ever-popular Forest Flower to his recent foray with Zakir Hussain on Sangam. I'm not quite sure what amazon means by "first live quartet album," as he has recorded many live albums, including one of my favorites, A Night In Copenhagen, in 1983.
There are so many good things to say about this recording. It flows naturally and beautifully from start to finish with Lloyd never seeming to miss ... Read More: |

| This album has been out a month and for some strange reason is being ignored. Why, I don't know. This kid can play. And he definitely can play live. You can hear Clark Terry and you can hear Miles in his tone and phrasing, but he's well on his way to having his own voice. This is serious jazz for real ears. The side players are exceptional. You can get a free download of one of the songs on allaboutjazz.com, but I definitely recommend you picking up the whole CD, which also comes with a DVD. | Kenny Garrett is a superb alto sax-player. This recording shows a comfortable Kenny playing this "funky-jazz" style, although I believe that he has recorded before better works. I was lucky to attend yesterday Kenny's concert in Sala Clamores Jazz (Madrid- Spain). The concert was excellent, although this recording in only fairly good. |
