| This CD mostly delivered what was expected of it. The only critique I have is that some of the tempos could have been cleaner, and that it should be cross-referenced by the other composers besides J. S. Bach. |

| Camille Saint-Saens was merciless in composing a score, often demanding performances that crowded the very limits of what is possible. Consequently, there are a lot of recordings that are frustrating to listen to because one can hear where the work is close but unfulfilled. This anthology of recordings compiled by Philips is the holy grail of Saint-Saens because the choice of conductors and artists was obviously based on melodic phrasing. | Excellent story of Tchaikovsky. All the classics with an engrossing story. Not a dull moment. Fun Fact: Did you know that his name is really spelled: TSCHAIKOWSKI (Polish name spelled in a Polish way, the Russians wanted him all to themselves,so slowly and through the years, the name was Russified, and not by TSCHAIKOWSKI). CD is Great! |

| Like so many forgottten composers of the Romantic period who wrote, flourished and were encouragingly recognized by their peers, Carl Reinecke (1824-1910), a virtual whirlwind of musical industry and activity, from composer to performer to conductor and pedagogue, has been, as well, occluded by the passing of indiscriminant time. Such a shame, really, because he wrote a wealth of music--- music of warmth, charm, sensitivity and humanity--- exactly like the two piano concertos here.
