| I will be honest, this is the first Beck CD I have ever purchased. In the past I would here a track and say to myself, "wow that is so cool". It seemed like a post-modern mish mash, very unique---at first. In reality it was like Doritos...delicious at first, but not sustaining. I am glad there were all those previous recordings, playing with strange musicality (kind of ultra-white boy chic)and wacky lyricism because it leads to this release. | This second disc is from the same performers of REJOICE: A STRING QUARTET CHRISTMAS and it basically follows the same formula. Christmas carols are arranged for a string quartet. The arrangements, which are in styles similar to the great classical composers' works, suit the music rather well. The major strength of this recording is the variety. | This CD was recommened in Tom Wheelers Strat book, as an excellent example of the phenomenal range of the stratocaster guitar and the music ability of Jeff Beck. Absolutely correct. A Jeff Beck fan or not, the pure music language and perfomance is astounding. If you are learning guitar, or desire to increase your guitar knowledge; how expansive guitar music can be, I highly recommend this CD. | So I am an instrumental fan, and this album fits nicely into my collection. This has about 4 really good songs that blend nicely with everthing from Tommy Guerrero to King Black Acid. I found the tones very interesting, in classic Jeff B form, low on viruosity and high in creativity. He has come a long way from Cream, but it is also back to the instrumental vibe that he was doing back in his stevie Wonder funk phase. |

| You know, Beck is respectable but it doesn't mean that I enjoy all of his albums. I mean, nothing by him touches Odelay but there's still other works I enjoy (Mellow Gold, Midnite Vultures, Sea Change, Guero). However, this release is just strange and I wonder how even the biggest fans of the record can listen to each song the whole way STRAIGHT from beginning to end. Sometimes, I view this as a mixtape and One Foot as a demo collection.
The biggest put-off for me is probably the song titles. There are three untitled songs that thereby screw up the rest of the track ... Read More: |
