121.Wired by: Jeff Beck

Music : Wired
I think this is Jeff Beck's finest recording. A notch better than its predecessor and a more comfortable fit than many of the other formats this experimental guitar hero has tried, Wired seems to fit his frantic guitar runs, his sonic bends, his unique phrasing, and his sweet-hot tone like a glove. It is doubtless due in part to the instrumental nature that this album stands above the rest. Beck doesn't have to battle a vocalist; he simply steps into the spotlight and wails. Rod Stewart came close, ... Read More:

Definitely one of my favorite albums ever. Bogert and Appice are astounding (as always actually). The ballads are good but the disc is worth its value just for "Lady" and "Superstition" alone. If you can listen to the first twelve bars of "Lady" without flailing away at the air doing your best air drums, you have more control than I do. Tim and Carmine are both excellent singers, but when they sing together like they do in a number of spots here, it's like a separate person. Beck is great, no doubt, but frankly ... Read More:

123.Beck & Sanborn by: Joe Beck with David Sanborn

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Beck & Sanborn
This album was originally released as an LP in 1975. It had 6 tracks and was 36 minutes long. The CD release has two bonus tracks and the total time is now 50 minutes. The sound quality is very good. The US edition is out of print, but you can find an import version, that is more expensive.

The band is Joe Beck on guitar and David Sanborn on sax with many studio musicians backing them up.

This very good jazz with twinges of fusion. It is very typical of the jazz styles of the mid seventies. ... Read More:

I do agree with some of the previous reviews that this is not one of Jeff Beck's very best recordings. It's not becuase his playing is off. It's not because the musicianship isn't there. It's not because the singer is "several steps down" from Rod Stewart (Bob Tench certainly is NOT in this reveiewer's opinino). IMO, it's not one of his greatest simply because the material is a bit weak and unfocused, though there are a few gems here.

Ice Cream Cakes is a tremendous rocker with one of JB's all-time coolest breaks, ... Read More:

125.Deadweight by: Beck

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Deadweight
Deadweight is a great single that, unlike many of Beck's singles, does not feature any remixes. Those remixes usually only illustrate how a great song can be butchered to death.

The first song on the single is, obviously, "Deadweight." This song ranks as possibly Beck's best non-album track. The only other contenders for that honor are "Timebomb" and "MTV Makes Me Want to Smoke Crack." "Deadweight" was created for the movie soundtrack to "A Life Less Ordinary," which is not a bad movie. The song on this single is an edited version, ... Read More:

126.Nicotine & Gravy by: Beck

Music : Nicotine & Gravy
This review is for the two B-Sides and the video of 'Nicotine and Gravy' only.

Another reviewer's comment that the song 'Midnite Vultures' should have been included on the album of the same name is, as is everything written here, a matter of opinion. In my opinion Beck was right to leave it off the album - it would have been a real low point and out of step with the rest of that release. It plods, is only an average Beck song and it is in no way similar or as good as 'Nicotine and Gravy', 'Pressure Zone' or the equally slow 'Beautiful ... Read More:

Beck is my favorite music artist by far. But, I bought this CD in haste, and it is just a remix of becks original songs. (It seems). Just a lot of studio over-dubs. I love Beck, but I think he kinda Sold-Out on this one. I do not recommend this CD. But, buy everything else by Beck.

Blow by Blow - The CD is what I remember from the past, which is what I was wanting.

After listening to the CD, I realized that I used to LOVE the LIVE version of some of these tunes... and so, I bought the Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer LIVE CD.

Blow by Blow is a studio recording which I find a little "dry" when compared to the energy of the LIVE CD... But it's still Jeff Beck!

You know, Beck is respectable but it doesn't mean that I enjoy all of his albums. I mean, nothing by him touches Odelay but there's still other works I enjoy (Mellow Gold, Midnite Vultures, Sea Change, Guero). However, this release is just strange and I wonder how even the biggest fans of the record can listen to each song the whole way STRAIGHT from beginning to end. Sometimes, I view this as a mixtape and One Foot as a demo collection.

The biggest put-off for me is probably the song titles. There are three untitled songs that thereby screw ... Read More:
