| Where It's At! This is probably the coolest of the many cool Odelay import eps out there. Clock is an excellent, highly catchy song... and the remixes of Where It's At are worthwhile, too. The Devil's Haircut remixes are all available a number of different places.. As is always the case with these deals, though... it's way expensive. |

| It is hard to understand why Jeff Beck could never find a way to be part of a group that could really make the payday. Post Yardbirds it seems that this guy moved from project to project and never really found bandmates with which he could develop into a cohesive unit. His guitar work has always been inovative and intense. I personally feel that he is by far a more inventive guitarist than Clapton or most certainly than Jimmy Page who basically ripped off a ton of Beck's licks and called them his own. Truth really ... | Yes, I must agree that the vocals are a little lacklustre. Carmen Appice sounded better in Vanilla Fudge than with this trio. But I remember buying this one when it first came out on vinyl (in 1973) and it sounds superb on that format.
It was a far more commercial, less adventurous effort than most of Jeffs previous albums and sounds very 'pop-ish' in places, BUT nevertheless Jeff Becks guitar work shines through impressively. The stand out track for me is the last one mainly because his slide guitar work on the ... Read More: |

| Although I was familiar with composer Christophe Beck's work on the TV series Buffy, The Vampire Slayer (which was excellent), I didn't consider his orchestral score for Elektra to be one of his best scores, and I wondered what kind of orchestral score he'd come up with for The Sentinel.
Well, I can safely say that this score more than makes up for Elektra. It's 53 minutes of pulse-pounding music, which begins with the Main Title Theme, which I particularly liked. That sense of tension and suspense continues throughout ... Read More: |
