Music : Beck Bogert & Appice
Think about it-Jeff Beck in his prime, ripping off some of his best licks with incredible tone backed up by Tim Bogert on Bass and Carmine Appice on Drums from Vanilla Fudge. The rhythm section is still tight coming off 3 years of playing with Cactus. Beck is great on tunes like "Black Cat Moan" and a great version of "Superstition". Forget the vocals (they're pretty bad) and imagine Rod Stewart singing these songs (what should have happened). This album is worth getting just for Jeff Beck's guitar ... Read More:

I found this album in the 3-for-a-dollar bin at a used CD shop years ago, and I knew as soon as I listened to it that I'd hit gold. I have to suspect that the original amazon reviewer above either didn't comprehend or simply didn't appreciate Carl Stephenson's very well-articulated renditions of these mind-blowing acid-trip-universe experiences through a whirl of sound and lyrics. In a nutshell, one might rightly call it "silly," but my first impressions were of awe, affinity, and total envelopment. Roughly 10 years ... Read More:

Music : Flash
This is the least satisfying release from the catalog of rock's greatest guitarist. But you get a lot of great solos here, and the fantastic version of "People Get Ready" with Rod Stewart on vocals (it's too bad they didn't do the entire album together). A 3 star Jeff Beck album is still better than a lot of others. He has set the bar so high for himself!

Music : Rough & Ready
Rough and Ready is indeed not only an "album" rather than a group of songs, but also a feeling, a feeling that starts with the very first song..... you'll likely soon realize it is the feeling you want .... a true music lover knows the unique quality of that feeling and how uplifting it can be.....I am here to suggest that this feeling is likely to be a constant while listening to this album, a soaring, epic expression of musical genius. This will be especially so once you get to know it as I do. Other than Sgt. Pepper, I don't ... Read More:

This is a great comeback album for guitar innovator/pioneer Jeff Beck. After a long hiatus, Beck returns with a strong backing lineup and strong, inventive tracks with a sense of humour as well. There are spoken verses throughout a couple of the tracks and "Where Were You" really stands out among other great tracks. This version comes in a mini-lp replica sleeve and has been remastered and so the sound is quite good but not great. Years back when I first got the cassette tape, I noticed that the sound quality was quite poor and so I'm ... Read More:

This is an interesting disc in that it features a relatively new group, Sequitur, that has made a name for itself performing new and relatively new music in unusual fora and contexts. This appears to be their first recording and one hopes that it is not their last. The disc features four concertante pieces, three of which are brand-new, and one of which, the Carter Double Concerto, is over forty years old. Interestingly, the Carter sounds fresher than a couple of the new ones, but I'm sure other ears might hear them differently.
