| I don't know if my specific product was defective or if it was a design flaw, but the "weak signal" symbol and accompanying beep were constantly coming up. I had intended to use this during mountain biking, but it would not keep accurate distance. I even tested it while driving, where I could compare the odometer reading in my car with the odometer on the GPS. Still, the Foretrex was significantly lower than the actual mileage. |

| I bought the GPSMap 76 because of its quad helix antenna. Reviews of other GPS receivers frequently complained that the satellite signal was lost in trees or under heavy cloud cover. I have yet to lose the signal when outdoors. It can even usually get the signal in my wood frame house.
I originally just wanted an odometer for hiking but decided to get some mapping capability. I have used the GPSMap 76 for hiking, driving and biking. It's not optimized for any of those uses but is pretty ... Read More: |

| I bought this model as a refurb for $300 a few years ago. I still have it. I have also, in that time, had a Magellan 700 (which died), a Tom Tom One 3rd. Ed., a Magellan 2200T, and a recently purchased Garmin 680.
They all work and each has its positive points. The 2200T has the best suction cup mount by far, the TomTom lets you add map corrections, and the 680 has mp3 and bluetooth. However, if you just want the best, easiest to use gps, the old Garmin 2270 is it. It has a superb bean ... Read More: |

| Installed this product in trunk of car. Installation was painless and only difficulty was finding an "always on" electrical line. Product came with sufficient material and wire length for installation into most locations. Product seemed real inconsistent first 24 hours it was turned on, I was almost to the point of considering returning it when it suddenly seemed to "sync up" and has been rock steady since. | I have five other Garmins. This one is cool, but without a filter for trucks it is a real let down. Hope they can add this filter. The screen changes color when entering traffic, very cool. Please are there more bikes and pedestrians using GPS than commercial vehicles & trucks? |

| I received the GPS sooner than estimated and it has performed up to my expectations. It powers up quickly and after using it for over a month it has been accurate over the trails in both distance and elevations. I definitely recommend it.
The only reason I did not rate it a 4 is the Garmin MapSource Topo U.S. 2008 did not come with it, but I knew that when I purchased it. After installing the Topo U.S. it will be a solid 5. |
