| David O. Selznick and director John Cromwell give epic treatment to this story of the war back on the home front. No one's really great in this one. Claudette Colbert and Shirley Temple hold their own and Monty Woolley is better than usual. However, you may cringe at Jennifer Jones's performance when she's usually so good. And the black-face lines they feed to Hattie McDaniel are embarrassing, though she manages to make her character into more than the script would seem to allow.

| The DVD movie that I bought from Amazon had many parts missing. Some important scenes and dialogues in the original version are not present in the version you sell. I'm really disappointed, and I will not buy anything from Amazon anymore. |

| Meryl Streep delivers one of, if not her best performances in any film I have seen her in. If you are a student of film, you must see this. If you are a fan of film, you must see this. If you are neither, you still must see this. The story is not for the faint of heart, it's a very intense subject matter that will have your mind doing cartwheels. Every performance I see is compared to Streep's performance in this film, leaving me walking away from the theatre saying "well, it was good, but it was no Sophie's Choice." ... Read More: |

| My husband and I first viewed Shining Through on television. After it was finished, I realized I had been holding my hand in a fixed position too long and also breathing shallow breaths. | I've seen this movie countless times, I'm even old enough to remember seeing it in the theater when it was first released. It is a magnificent piece of cinema and, in my humble opinion, the greatest movie ever made. The acting, the driving music, the suspense, the action, this movie has it all and if you watch this on a big screen television you will have the feeling of being in the mix of the defenders. I just want to add 2 comments to already has been written Michael Kitchen is outstanding in the series House of Cards trilogy volume 2. In regard to Set 1 only ,I do not understand the excitement about Honeysuckle Weeks [Sam]. I have not seen the other volumes but in set one, I find her adequete but not outstanding. |
