| If you love the history as I do, you will love this Video. I love the history of the United States and this shows what great people that formed this nation. The people of the United States can be greatful for the wonderful people that founded the nation and it also shows how luck had a lot to do with the founding. | This production is a thumbnail sketch (1.5 hours) of the Dark Ages, from the fall of Rome to about 1,000 AD. Overall, I enjoyed it and found it informative. This DVD follows a typical History Channel pattern of breaking up history into meaningful segments and illustrating broad social changes by focusing on specific events and individuals for illustration.

| I note that there are a lot of lukewarm reviews of this set, and even a fair number of negative comments relating to its shortcomings. For me, though, as a beginner in World War II history, something I knew very little about, I found this set quite enjoyable and informative. | I have been loving this show since it started almost 2 yrs ago. Their interviews are the most fascinating and contribute to the history (oral history) of the aviation industries and military history. I am so grateful to have seen BG Robin Olds on this show again. Their visual effects and CG images are very well done. And the narrator tells the stories in a very exciting manner. By far this has been the greatest military/aviation show featured on history channel. There, though, can some improvements. Like they could show other nation's aerial battles too. But ... | This program is made for television/ short-attention span piece of work. It is more formatted around time for commercials than for its overall flow as a documentary.
I ordered it after reading the book "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman. I was hoping for commentary by Alan Weisman but there was none. I feel like he did much better job in his work on an analysis of this scenario. This effort by the history channel seems more like a Johnny-come-lately in comparison to Weisman's work and I was disappointed. |
