Let me say that I have always been, and will always be a HUGE Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry fan, but I hesitated to purchase this DVD because I thought I had seen any live Roxy footage worth seeing. I WAS WRONG!!

The 1974 live performance of "Psalm" on the German TV show Musicladen will blow your mind!! This clip captures Roxy at the apex of it's creativity and originality, and Bryan Ferry's spirited and dramatic recitation of his spellbinding lyrics eventually drives the song into ... Read More:

"Roxy at the Apollo" makes me remember how stunned the band made me WAY back in 1974, right after "Country Life" was released. These guys acknowledged what the "Lester Bangs character" in "Almost Famous" said about rock and roll being dead. So Roxy, in effect, re-invented it! And I do have to say that I am EVER so grateful that Eno didn't deign to tour with the band in '01 - his "balding transvestite" appearance kind of scared me off the band's first 2 albums (althugh the music was fantastic!) NO problem ... Read More:

Howlin' Wolf, Roscoe Gordon, Rufus Jones and an assortment of black blues notables in the early days. Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnnie Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis and an assortment of white rockabilly notables in the mid to late 1950's. What do they have in common? Well, one thing, and make that an important one thing, is that they passed through Mr. Sam Phillips' Sun Records recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee on the way to some kind of career. Amazing. With the possible exception of Chess Records in Chicago that ... Read More:

Objectively, this may not be the most stellar B.Ferry work, but for his fans this is one of those where two worlds meet in a truly enjoyable way - Dylan's music and Ferry's touch. Must see.

Much prefer this to the later "Live at the Apollo", which was frantically edited and in which the band members were really showing their age.

I like the idea of preserving the original lineup, but there's no comparison in the drumming of Newmark vs. Thompson; their discographies are very lopsided.

Very well done. Good song selection, but heavy on the As Time Goes By standards (not a complaint).

"A Viewer" is right, this is the same exact performance(s) as on that "Musikladen" thing. However, these "special edition EP" things have the sound mixed 5.1, but the "pop up" information is only occasionally correct. Get the "Apollo" DVD, you won't quit looking at IT for a week...

DVD : The Best of Musikladen: T-Rex & Roxy Music
I'm not a huge Roxy Music fan. And although I do prefer their early 70s output (to the late 70s/80s stuff), the versions on the tape outshine the studio versions - and seeing Eno, Ferry, etc in all their (made-up) glory is double the fun.

The band really ROCKS - visually and sonically.

A "must see" for any serious student of rock music.
