| Sometimes it feels like a recruitment commercial. The series shows the hellish side of combat, only to end with happy faces all around. In fact, it seems to be centered more about the military career (going up the ladder) than about the actual war happening. Being an American production, that is understandable. Of course the characters depicted are all good workers, ups, sorry, soldiers. For a better, non-jingoistic, and relevant look at war, see "Generation Kill". |

| This is a must see film by Ken Burns. Showing both the war overseas and what effect it had on families & cities back in the U.S at the time, makes this an outstanding film. 5 Stars +

| I love this movie to death, in spite of all the flaws mentioned in the reviews found herein. I personally feel we're lucky the producer made this film at all, and that it turned out as well as it did. | This movie is one that our teenagers like also. In this day and age that is hard to find. We like the fact that it does seem to be very real. Our oldest daughter asked about the movie when they were studing WWII Germany in World History. So I had borrowed this movie from my Mother. Once they saw it they decided that we had to own it as well. |

| I first saw "Empire of the Sun" in the Lakes District in England with an Australian stranger named Alf. (I'm not making this up.) Though a literature major in college, this film made me realize how few in-depth, behind-the-scenes, real history lessons I learned in my regular high school and college classes. The film started me on a journey to learn more. I now teach Social Studies and English to high-schoolers and try to always make sure my students understand that history is people and people are stories. |
