| The image is good, but not fantastic, probably taken from a master video tape, but without restoration. The black is sometimes too grey without enought contrast, the colors are granular and twinkles a bite the way video (tapes) images use to.
The movie is absolutly great, probably the second-best "Dracula" ever made after the 1958 Hammer film. |

| After reading about this "great, classic, etc" movie for years, I finally laid hands on a copy and viewed it. This is possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. It almost seemed like a joke at times. I do love the arthouse movies, film noir, classics, and other non-mainstream cinema, but I honestly do not get the hype over this waste of time. Avoid it. |

| It seems that every Herzog film I see is better than the last, and "The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser" continues that trend. Herzog tells the story of the apparently feral youth who showed up in a Bavarian town in the early 19th century, and of the five years he lived being groomed for "civilization."
In Herzog's hands, the tale is a melancholy and occasionally poignant one. Hauser is unspeakably abused for most of his life by his jailer (his father?), chained to a cellar basement with no human companionship, never having seen the light of day. ... Read More: |

| I will never forget seeing "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" some 20 years ago. It is to this day one of the most extraordinary films I have ever seen. Somehow "Fitzcarraldo" got past me, and I have been trying to see it ever since. It did not do for me what "Aguirre" once did, but this may have as much or more to do with my own shrunken state as it does with the film's limitations. If the film is "just" an historical anecdote, a story, then it cannot be faulted. The film is told well. It is filmed beautifully. | At one point in Herzog's brilliant "Stroszek," the mentally handicapped street musician Bruno (Bruno S.) and his physician are speaking. Bruno is in despair at the sordidness and violence of life. Taking him to one of the preemies in the hospital's neonatal ward, the physician holds out his two index fingers and the infant, scrawny, leathery, barely clinging to life, reaches up and grabs them so tightly that the doctor can lift him out of the cradle.
