First of all, these two movies should be viewed as "psychological" horror: don't expect "monsters" (other than human ones) or magic; after all, they are based on Edgar Allen Poe stories (though embellished). I prefer "Pit and the Pendulum" over "House of Usher", but each has its own take on the human mind.

Vincent Price is simply superb. Whatever else one says about these movies, his acting can hardly be faulted.

The DVD is that cost-effective but unsettling "one movie per ... Read More:

"Masque of Red Death" is definitely the best of the Corman/Price/Poe series. While many point out the well-budgeted, lavish set in comparison to the previous films, I believe this one is superior based on the story and solid characters alone.

It departs from the formula of the others in the series by being more tightly focused, more sinister, and the least camp of them all. It is refreshing to see Price maintain a sinister voice with his character that leaves little room for calling him ... Read More:

DVD : The Comedy of Terrors/The Raven
I enjoyed Vincent Price's movies since I was a kid. My favorites are of course the Dr. Phibes flicks Vincent Price: MGM Scream Legends Collection (The Abominable Dr. Phibes / Tales of Terror / Theater of Blood / Madhouse / Witchfinder General / Dr. Phibes Rises Again / Twice Told Tales) and The Raven. Featuring the horror master's of their time - Price, Karloff, Lorre - and a new actor - Nicholson. It was 1963, and Roger Corman was working with Price on their string of popular adaptations of Poe's stories.

As another reviewer mentioned, one of the Tales of Terror is actually a combination of "The Black Cat" and "The Cask of Amontillado". I read both stories in my English classes, and then show the video and have the students write a compare/contrast paper. It's a lot of fun right around Halloween, and helps us get into the mood for the holiday. We all especially love the end, when Peter Lorre's head is being tossed back and forth between his wife and Fortunato. Great stuff!

Vincent Price: MGM Scream Legends Collection (The Abominable Dr. Phibes / Tales of Terror / Theater of Blood / Madhouse / Witchfinder General / Dr. Phibes Rises Again / Twice Told Tales)

As a fan of the late Vincent Price,i was eager to get a reasonably good collection of his films at a good price. This collection is it and it is very good. The special effects might appear dated and the scripts may not always be adhesive, but these films are all about the actors and Price himself. With co-stars like Peter ... Read More:

This DVD represents the most and least elaborate of the American International Poe series, but also two of its very best efforts. "The Tomb of Ligeia," the last of the classic series (meaning the teaming of Vincent Price with director Roger Corman) is also the most unusual. Shot in England, it capitalizes on exterior locations rather than the series' usual claustrophobic soundstage settings. It also features Price at his most Byronic, made up and bewigged to look as young and dashing as possible, and he responds by keeping ... Read More:

Valiant effort at recreating the feel of WWI aviation but 'over acting' is a detriment. It is still an enjoyable motion picture none the less.

Three years before The Dirty Dozen was released, director Roger Corman made this movie, The Secret Invasion, dealing with a similar subject although with a much smaller budget. In Cairo in 1943, five men are brought together by British Major Richard Mace, each of them specialists in their field. The catch you ask? They're all convicts with sentences ranging from a few years to immediate execution. Mace has brought them together to help the Allied invasion of Italy by making the situation in the Balkans easier to handle. Mace and his convict ... Read More:

The Midnite Movies DVDs are great. They provide us with some great classics in horror at a fair price (as long as they stay in print) and a lot of the times you get two great movies on one disc as seen here. The quality is usually great as well. However from my experience Midnite Movies are famous for mistakes and misprints on the back of their DVDs. I don't mind, it's kind of like when your a kid buying baseball cards and your looking for the error card.

Haunted Palace:
On the back of the Haunted Palace they mention it being based on ... Read More:
