| This is one of the finest films I have seen centered on small Southern town prejudice and military procedure. The characters are all portrayed with some of the finest acting skills in the business. If I was disappointed in any way, it was with the knowledge that the story is fictional; everything about the film leads the viewer to believe that the incidence actually occurred. | I bought this movie after i read the book in one night. I was so amazed by the book that i had to see the movie and see how other minds played out the charcters. I did enjoy watching the movie, however, i was disappointed by the acting and the way the plot was set out. It usually happens that you read a book then see that movie and there are always changes to the movie to fit all the excitement and adventure in 90 minutes. | I have read a lot of the reviews here and I wonder if they watched the same movie I just did. Granted it was made in 1980. The picture quality is not as good as new ones made today. This movie is packed with a lot of very good actors. John Houseman is wonderful in this. This movie covers a lot of every day trials that average people go through. | While this is a 'dated" movie, it is a nicely done mix of some of Ms. Henderson's stories. Worth watching, and well worth buying. Would love to see more of her stories brought to film-they have a good message, which is not given in a preaching manner. |

| If you love the books the movies won't disappoint you. Oliver's Story is very close to the book, and Segal does help write the screenplay.
Oliver's Story is obviosly not as compelling as Love Story, but uncomparable by the subject difference. Oliver does make ammends with his dad which has given him the purpose and meaning he cannot find without Jenny. O'Neal does some great acting! He brings our desperate, searching, Barrett to life. |

| My only point in writing this review is warn people that it is not the same as TV version. It is a good film.
Not sure exactly what version is on the DVD and how it different from the TV version, but the DVD version does not have Henry Wrinkler as the narrator. I recall watching this on TV many years ago, and there are scenes missing from the DVD version that were on TV. My guess is that this version was created before the TV version which Wrinkler narrates. Wrinkler does not narrates the DVD version, and the DVD ... Read More: |
