| This is perhaps second only to The Searchers in the many great films John Ford directed. Again starring John Wayne as well as the always excellent James Stewart, Vera Miles and Lee Marvin. Essentially its a western which shows the beginning of the end for the old west.
If you watch this you need to remember that although this was made in 1962, and that John Ford had been making films since the early part of the 20th Century (1917). So this has a different feel to any sort of modern film. The ... Read More: |

| She Wore a Yellow Ribbon is an enjoyable Western starring John Wayne and is directed by John Ford. It offers a rather nostalgic view of the Cavalry in the Western US after the Civil War. In it John Wayne struggles to come to terms with his military retirement, and decides to stay in the Army in the end. Overall, I enjoyed the movie - the scenary is awesome, and the dialogue is rather clever. The one key ingredient that it lacks to be considered a classic is a lot of action. | An interesting and watchable film. Not standard 'cavalry and Indians' fare. The Apache have left the reservation becaue of mistreatment by the corrupt Dept. of Indian Affairs--and under President Grant, it was truly corrupt. I won't attempt to summarize the movie. Watch it, yourself. The Apache are dealt with with understanding. The Federal Commandant, played by Henry Fonda, is overly played as pigheaded and militarily foolish.
