| These women will go to great lengths to land a rich husband, even if that means selling all they have, living on hot dogs, and going to high society parties to stake out the millionaires. | I'd put off getting this boxed set because it never went on sale. That is true of both this set and the Judy Garland Signature Collection. I finally did get this one, and for the past few days I've gone through the set and I can see why it's never on sale. Although I frequently see "The Women" and "Mildred Pierce" televised, it had been awhile for two of the others, and I had never seen "Humoresque" before. What a treat, what five outstanding films. | "The Maltese Falcon" is a great movie because of its great actors and tight dialogue. Bogart, as the cynical but ultimately ultramoral, Sam Spade, is great as are his antitheses, Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet and Mary Astor. Spade is suckered by a beautiful woman [Astor] into what turns out to be the criminal enterprise of locating the 'Maltese Falcon', a ceramic bird worth millions. Men and women fight and die to gain its possession.

| Ah, the joy of an old film noir! It's wonderful to watch a crime

| I waited a long time for this one to be released. O'Henry is one of my most favorite authors, up there with Mark Twain. This film appealed to me in my youth because it was narrated by another great author, John Steinbeck. This is the only honest treatment of O'Henry and his work, unless you know of another -- please clue me in. The Last Leaf and The Gift of the Magi are priceless stories, told so well in this film.
