Unlike the CD, "Beethoven Lives Upstairs,"--which was of superb quality--I was very disappointed in the DVD. I had hoped it would be exactly the story/conversations/music/etc. of the CD but simply put to live action. It was not! The character of Christoph was made much more whiny and disrespectful. The story was changed some from the CD. Conversations were different. Not nearly as much of Beethoven's music was heard. I would buy another story-CD in the Classical Kids series in a moment; I don't think ... Read More:

I loved the movie, but I love almost any animal movie. Dean Cain is one of my favorite actors & he's great in this movie.

Well, if you're an anti-Catholic bigot, just LOVE empty-headed after-school specials, and know absolutely nothing about the truth of the Galileo case, I'm sure you'll love this badly-acted bit of foolishness. I had my students watch it. The bad acting pained them. One asked: "What did we do to you that made you so angry that you forced us to watch that idiotic thing?" The problem was, I had assigned them to read the actual historical documents on the Galileo case BEFORE they watched the movie. So they ... Read More:

I agree with the reviewer that said that these DVD are great for elementary music classes. I have often used them when I need substitute lesson plans. I use them with grade 6. The story lines are fictional but based on the composer's life and times. The stories are thought provoking. It keeps the students attention.

I just recently received the Artists' Specials DVD Collectors Set. I teach art in a home school co-op and I was looking for some biographies which were appropriate for high school students. I've just recently watched two of the videos and they are quite good. In fact, after the one on Rembrandt, I did some research on his life and the information portrayed in the video was totally accurate. My hats off to this company. I would recommend these for any classroom or home school setting.

The premise of this story about a runaway who runs into Thomas Edison's lab sounded, well, not that good. After watching it, it was apparent a lot of thought went into this story and it works very well. From what I have read of Edison he is portrayed in this dvd as he really was. Also recommended from the Inventors Specials are Marie Curie More Than Meets the Eye and Newton A Tale of Two Isaacs. The Edison dvd is a favorite of the Inventor Specials because it shows the influence Edison had on this young person's ... Read More:

I was excited to get these DVDs-- mostly because I can change the language over to Spanish and practice with stories that are moderately familiar. These did the trick. Younger members of the family have found them useful for educational purposes (language learning aside) as well.

After seeing DEGAS AND THE DANCE, I was wondering what DEGAS AND THE DANCER was like. What made my daughter (12 at the time of this review) sit down was the piano that accompanies the DVD screen menu. It probably sounded to her similar to what they use at some of her ballet classes. She loved the entire movie. Even I enjoyed this presentation so much, we watched it again a few days later. The actors are easy to follow and familiarize with. The characters are funny and tragic. The ballerinas look pretty and professional. ... Read More:

I don't mind blending a little fiction with a bit of science to make an interesting movie, but when you are making a biography of Einstein, it would be nice to at least get the explanation of E=mc2 right. In the movie it says that he proved mathematically that if mass moves at the speed of light squared it turns into energy! AARRGGHH! Just for the record, according to Einstein, nothing goes faster than the speed of light.

As a public school music teacher, I have a number of these films in my collection. This film is bizarre.

The story moves a long slowly, the plot contrivances are a little thin, and just like in Beethoven Lives Upstairs (where Christopher, the boy character, and Beethoven spend an afternoon walking and talking with each other), there's a section where the little girl languishes alongside Bizet and his mopey son on a warm afternoon. Completely innocent, but as you may well guess, I don't buy a 10 year old girl and ... Read More:
