| The Original Three Tenors Concert was held during a very warm month: July. The actual date was July 7, 1990 at Terme di Caracalla in Rome, Italy, to commemorate the World Cup Football finals. The location was spectacular: the fabled Roman ruins of the Baths of Caracalla. The idea for this concert was for colleagues Domingo and Pavarotti to welcome back Carreras after his successful battle with leukemia and to assist his foundation.

| One of my favorite operas. The sets were rather spartan, but the music is excellent. My major gripe is with the subtitles in the DVD (and the reason for my 4 star review) - they are very poor. I understand little Russian, and the subtitles appear once every few minutes. At least if they enclosed the libretto with the DVD I would have been able to follow the singing while listening/watching. |

| With the Metropolitan Museum of Art not far from the Metropolitan Opera House, this production exudes authenticity. One thing to watch for: does the high priest have a beard or not? He is the first person to sing onstage, and he should NOT have a beard. Egyptians could not grow beards, but the king wore a fake beard as a sign of power--even the female pharaoh Hatshepsut wore a beard! | If there was anything to be replaced in this production, it would be Domingo. He is too old for the vocal demands of the role and never had the right voice for Othello, anyway. Otherwise, the performance is excellent and Renee Fleming's Desdemona can not be possibly bettered. I must admit not being a huge fan of this opera, with its moronic hero and bombastic musical writing, but do have a favorite performance, which is a Tokyo production with Del Monaco, Gobbi, and Erede conducting. So, sue me. |

| This is an amazing stage and costume spectacle with highly unusual music that is sometimes pleasing and other times jarring. It is certainly different. Tan Dun even gave the orchestra vocal parts!
The overly simplistic story line and lyrics of the opera, however, were no match for the luscious spectacle enveloping the music and singing. Elizabeth Futral, for example, did a wonderful acting job as the princess with Eastern mannerisms but the English vocal lines she expressed were often just plain bizarre. | I have seen many other versions of this ballet, but Ms. Harvey is superb. She outshown Mikail Baryshnikov. She is wonderful. I fully enjoyed the ballet, but most especially her excellent performance! |

| For ages I have been familiar with this opera, and once upon a time designed costumes for it, too. This version was somewhat different, but very good. The settings didn't always appear as though it was the cigarette factory or the café of Lilas Pastias, but the acting was good and the singing excellent. Not a recent production, it still shows how good Jose Carreras is. Unfortunately Samuel Ramey didn't seem as convincing as Escamillo as he could have. Though a smaller role, it is nevertheless very important to the story.
