In the early days of talkie films, many of the major studios carved out their own niches: MGM did the spectacular movies and the musicals, Warner Brothers did the social issue and gangster movies and Universal did the monster movies. By the 1950s, Frankenstein and company were generally played out, so Universal switched from the supernatural to the "scientific" monsters. These films were for the most part B-movie fare and generally fun, but also formulaic enough to merit parody, most notably on ... Read More:

The Bottom Line:

Though the ending feels somewhat Twilight Zone-esque and doesn't measure up to the rest of the screenplay, this is by and large an exceptionally well-written and acted movie that hurtles through its 138 minute running length and hardly feels a bit dated.

I bought this movie because I remembered watching it when I was younger, and thought my son might like to see it. He, and I have watched it about 7 or 8 times since we received it. He loves it as much as I did when I was his age. John Cusack is so funny! It really is a great movie if you like over the top comedy.

I am not the world's biggest Elvis fan. I bought this DVD because I fancied Jonathan Rhys-Meyers after seeing him in Bend It Like Beckham (Widescreen Edition), The Tudors - The Complete First Season, and Match Point. I had seen a promo for it on TV but had missed it when it was on. I am now an Elvis fan!

The reason why this adaptation works so well is that Rhys-Meyers is able to perfectly capture Elvis' magnetism and earthy charm in his portrayal of the King. He has the nervous energy that's just right and ... Read More:

This isn't a great film. Part of the problem lies with the character assigned to Gene Tierney. The character she plays comes across more as distraught and hysterical than anything else. It's hard to imagine that anyone, regardless of how much they loved her, could believe in her. To make matters worse some of the dialogue she delivers is awful. There isn't an actor dead or alive who could make a character like that fully believable. But part of the fault lies with Tierney herself. She spends most of her screen time looking like ... I have purchased many movies and tv shows. Many of these purchases are a disappointment .One exception is the Wyatt Earp,4-disc set.Rhino did a fantastic job of restoring the picture and sound quality on all of these discs.Hugh O'Brian is really good and so are the other actors. The picture and sound are better than I rememeber them when I was growing up.I was born and grew up in Muscatine,Iowa, which is not too far from Monmouth,Illinois where the Earps were born.I have really have found much pleasure in seeing these Hugh O'Brian Wyatt Earp shows. ... DVD : Grand Canyon - The Hidden Secrets (Large Format)
This documentary is shown in the IMAX theater in Tusayan near the entrance of the Canyon. I like the opening line, "Man clings to the edge of eternity." The film focuses on human activity. The Anasazi were the first people in the Canyon. The Spaniards found it in 1540. John Wesley Powell, a one-armed Civil War veteran, navigated the Colorado River in 1869. I was waiting for geology. It never came. The producers aim for a big screen experience and ticket sales rather than trying to impart knowledge. I wondered about the film's subtitle. It seems the ... Read More:
