| It was just entertaining to see the fellows work in the kitchen, to see the atmosphere/patrons in the dining room. I thought it was fun, and it held my attention to see how things were going to unfold. It's o.k. |

| I enjoyed this movie, though it took a while before the film came to have any meaning or direction. At first this movie seems like it will be a raunchy, drunken, orgy film with the main character, Robert Merivel, gaining acceptance into the royal household of King Charles II of England. A physician, he saves the king's dog then becomes a drunken boor at court.
Chalres uses Robert for a dupe then Robert is cast out of court when he defies the king's wish. He ends up doctoring lunatics. ... Read More: |

| The first time I watched this movie, it seemed choppy--as if some scenes were deleted. After reading the reviews posted here, I can see that was the case. I've watched it a couple of times since then and really came to appreciate the film, particularly the performances. Rufus Sewell and Emily Woof are excellent. I ached for poor Gracie! I do have issue, however, with the $26 price tag. I don't think I would pay that much for it. I was able to purchase a copy at a used bookstore for $7.99. |

| good story line, good scenery....interesting...Brosnan is usually such a light weight to me in most movies...too stuffy, bit I really liked his character in this movie... |

| I'm a Harrison fan, already owned the movie on DVD. After reading the Blu-ray reviews and a cheap price on sale at Amazon I could help but add this to my new Blu-Ray collection. The menu system for the movie is not as good as some Blu-Ray movies I have. Not sure why, it would frezze my unit if I tried to change the sound, etc. from the opening menu. As I can access the menu once the movie is playing that worked fine. The sound and picture were great considering how old this film is. It was nice to watch it again in Blu-ray on a HD projector ... | This is the worst ripoff of a major literary work I have ever seen. It takes colossal gall (to say nothing of immense bad taste) to take the bare bones of a Dostoevsky novella & tack on every possible bodice-ripper cliche in movies & then try to interweave Dostoevsky's own personal travails as narrative interstices. All done with no flair for nor flavor of the original.
The acting is strictly mid-20th century nyah-ha-ha Masterpiece Theater while the casting is about as suitable as Ray Winstone in his infamous Henry VIII turn. Read More: |
