| In reviewing the Barcelona Opera DVD in which Maria Guleghina also appears as Lady Macbeth, I've already expressed my view (not shared by everyone here) that "Macbeth" is one of Verdi's underappreciated operas. | I got this for my husband, to view while he was recovering from surgery. Well, I couldn't have chosen better because he absolutely loves it and I think he's watched it at least 3 times since. He says the voices are splendid, as are the production values. All in all, a bit hit! |

| I certainly agree with Scott Morrison's review and think Maria's vocal resources are weak in her middle voice where much of this role resides. I am a fan of hers, however, so I did enjoy her acting and top notes which were always forte, when it would be nice to see if she had the support to float a pianissimo. Cura is one of the best tenors today but not secure in this role. He was watching Muti to distraction. However, I did enjoy his performance overall. | This production has many great things going for it. The singing is really wonderful, Carlos Alvarez and Maria Guleghina are a great match to play the overly ambitious Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. It is obvious to see why the role of Lady Macbeth has become a specialty for Maria Guleghina. The staging (by Phyllida Lloyd) and sets/ costumes (Anthony Ward) were probably my favorite part of the entire production. The sets really symbolized Verdi's dark tinta in the music.
