| True. The blood and gore of modern war films are absent, but so are the orchestrated scores, the heroes, and with them, the implicit glory of combat. The trench warfare and Maschinengewehr machine guns might be dated (along with the black and white format and by-modern-standards-poor sound), but the nationalist pride and civilian attitudes complicit in warfare are not. A film for every generation.

| I read the book when I was 12 and it made a huge impression on me. I recently reread the book with my children and we were really excited when we saw that this video was available. We enjoyed the video but was not as impressed as we could have been - acting a bit weak - not a patch on the book - but then that is usually the case when one reads the book first. It still brought a tear to the eye and provides the emotional journey for the viewer that David experiences. This video is only available for Region 1 |

| For some reason, I had an image of a really cheesy, cornball movie that was so-so. But I may have been thinking of Wild Wild West and/or Blazing Saddles.
I love Jackie Chan movies. This one doesn't disappoint! It's full of great action scenes, several doses of humor, and lots of Jackie goodness! I liked it considerably more than The Medallion, which I watched a couple nights ago (at least decent fare in its own right). | The first film of mastermind director, Christopher Nolan (Dark knight, memento), it's simply BRILLIANT the way he puts together this dark puzzle. The movie plays in chronological disorder to make you feel disoriented like the protagonist (jeremy theobald), who doesn't know what's really happening around him. It got a lot of twists, and just when you think you know what's happening....you're WRONG!!!. Like every debut film from a director, it got it's little flaws, but is compensated by its brutal final act!!.
