The picture looks better, no more blips or speckles. And I thought it was interesting when William Friedkin says Hitchcock loved working with fake backdrops. I never knew that, interesting in the age of CGI technology.

I've been watching the entire Otto Preminger catalog lately, and I got around to seeing what is arguably his most famous film. Seeing it again makes me realise that it's a masterpiece of tension, performances, dialogue, and cinematography.

There is so much to like about this film. Nothing here in the trial or the characterisations is present in black and white (there's even a dialogue by Stewart to a potential witness about how people aren't black and white). It is full blown ambiguity, resulting ... Read More:

This movie is still one of my favorites about the subject of alcoholism. (Tender Mercies is probably the best movie on this subject). The narrative arc is somewhat overwrought. The Jack Lemmon character goes into delirium tremens twice! He does this not after he goes cold turkey and as a result of withdrawal symptoms but after one night of taking up drinking again. That doesn't make sense. Lee Remick's fondness for chocolate as a precursor to possible tendencies to alcoholism I think has been pretty much discredited. Nevertheless, ... Read More:

Andy Griffith, in his acting debut, certainly isn't the Andy Taylor we all love. Here, he plays "Lonesome" Rhodes, a charming drifter that catches the eye and fancy of Patricia O'Neil. She puts him on her radio station and he becomes a star. His folksy ways and "every man" personality is played to the hilt, taking along O'Neil, his ever-growing audience, and even a presidential candidate in his masquerade. Not too soon, "Lonesome" is revealed as what he is - not the Will Rogers that his public sees, but a power-mad snake oil salesman that ... Read More:

I first saw this movie back in the mid '60s when I was about 14 and thought it was a great movie. I recently purchased it on DVD and looked forward to enjoying it again. Unfortunately, like some wine this movie didn't age well. While there were some amusing spots (Donald Pleasance's performance)I found a great deal of the movie to be rather corny and ham handed. It was amusing to view again after forty years or so but for me it's not a keeper.

I have marked 1 star, otherwise I can't go on with this procedure. But the truth is I can't rate "The Omen" at all, because I could never play it. Blu-Rays from Fox are always so tricky and so slow to load (why is that, when Warner or Columbia Blu-rays, for instance, are so easy and fast?) that I was'nt wandering why it was taking about ten minutes to get the main menu on screen. But when I cliked "Play", the menu dissappeared, but the image on the backgroung kept playing, and playing, and playing forever.
I just could'nt watch the movie.

I ordered this to add to my blu ray collection and I was very happy with my purchase. The transfer of the older Omen movies to Blu Ray was quite good and these are timeless horror movies. If you are looking for a good horror flick that isn't all blood and guts and gore, these are the movies you want to see. They have enough horror content to make them scary and disturbing (which is what you WANT in a horror movie) but they aren't extremely graphic and bloody.

I remember watching the initial airing of this concert on television and at one point stood up and screamed at the TV. I could not beleive that what should have been an historic, television event, was actually a schmaltzy, PBS documentary about the concert. I, like most every person I knew who were interested in musical theater at the time, were pissed! Why? Why? Why? Why couldn't they have taped and shown the entire concert instead of this 90 minute fluff? Yes, I am sure all the performers were excited to be performing in this "once in a lifetime" event, I got that, but why couldn't they ... Read More:
