| If you are sick of sanitised period peices then this is a fine example. The lighting is has a very natural quality, there's dirt and it is an honest attempt at Jane Austens book. Well done. |

| Bought this set a while back. A little pricey, but it's worth it. I like the crazy broad in the hat (Hyacinth). She kinda reminds me of my mother. For a while, I was only watching PBS and they showed this all the time. That was when I wasn't working, so now I watch the DVDs when I get home from the Valero station. | Three actors of HBO's "Rome" (Cirian Hinds, James Purefoy and Polly Walker) make this movie a tragic and twisted joy to watch. You find yourself sympathizing and then hating each of the characters (save one) from one moment to the next. Everyone lies for selfish ends and yet no one seems to fully get what they desire.

| Most of the good reviews for this film are from fans of the book, who swallow their pride and FORGIVE quite a lot, simply for the privilege to see these characters come to life in film once again. The other good reviews seem to be from the Timothy Dalton fan club.
Anyone approaching this film without having read the book, will be bored out of their mind. This truly is an awful film. The direction is stale and the acting is over the top. The viewer will not feel invested in ANY of the characters. Total rubbish! ... Read More: |

| This is an incredible movie to watch especially as a mother. We watch this movie once a year around Ash Wednesday and I have done this since my kids were 1 and 3 and are now 14 and 16. At one time my younger son was so sad and engrossed with the movie he wanted a "dream catcher" so the thought of the awful things seen as a mother of a child who was tortured so would just go away. | Extremely funny. Patricia Routledge, who is Hyacinth, is of course immensely talented and quite capable of carrying a series based on this character alone. However, she's surrounded by a talented cast, and they've all got some mighty fine writing to work with. So now, of course, I have to order more Hyacinth. One DVD is not enough. |
