| Rebecca (1940) is the only film directed by Alfred Hitchcock that won an Oscar as best picture and it is also his first american film. It certainly has many of Hitch's trademarks (the opening sequence for example)but imho it is an overrated film, the performances are dull with the exceptcion of Judith Anderson`s role and the script is weak. | The sexual frustration undertones in this movie will keep you riveted!
The chemistry between Taylor and Newman are amazing. Set in a time in the south where everything was big. I reccomend this film to anyone who loves going back in time when movies had grit and a bite to them! |

| This is another wreck of Indian ways and culture told by Hollywood story tellers, who had no idea what an Indian really was. If you look at the fact that Sioux Indians were in the North West, then why did his companion, who spoke French, was the way of Indians in the lower East of America.
Besides that, why did Harris's character, who after living with the Indians for so long, never bothered to even learn their language. At one point, he is teaching his new wife english...how sad. But, that's Hollywood, and this is an exploitation ... Read More: |

| This is just one more reason why my favorite star of all time is Barbara Stanwyck. There was no role she couldn't play and didn't try. How she never won an oscar is a mystery to me. She could play the meanest woman and still make you love her. There was just something about her. The Furies is just one example of this. Walter Houston is equally cast as her hard headed father. All the supporting cast is top notch. Do yourself a favor and buy this movie. It's a great western and the battle between the two stars for control is great drama |

| See Jerry Lewis at the top of his game, along with the Count Basie Orchestra, and you have a virtual orgy for the senses. The supporting cast is top notch. However, the dip into the hipness of the era, via the Basie Orchestra really puts this fairytale over the top.

| This film came in a Classic Film Noir DVD set I received as a Christmas gift. It contains eight other public-domain films noir and, at under $10, is a great deal even if you don't get it for free.
The Hitch-Hiker is widely considered to be the first film noir directed by a woman, acclaimed actress Ida Lupino. | This is a really nice Barbara Stanwyck sampler with average prints designed for those looking for a bargain. The plus side is that it contains two great films and a very fun murder mystery which balances out the two dramas. "Meet John Doe" and "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" are the meat here, while "Lady of Burlesque" makes for a sweet dessert.
