| This is an oft-times overlooked film in the Kubrick canon, and that's something that is unfortunate. At the base, the story is a satire on injustice in the military / injustice in war. It takes on a number of themes all at once, and does so gracefully without ending up looking like a rudderless plot.

| I first saw this movie back in the mid '60s when I was about 14 and thought it was a great movie. I recently purchased it on DVD and looked forward to enjoying it again. Unfortunately, like some wine this movie didn't age well. While there were some amusing spots (Donald Pleasance's performance)I found a great deal of the movie to be rather corny and ham handed. It was amusing to view again after forty years or so but for me it's not a keeper. |

| Yet another example of excellent casting here paring Gene Hackman with Danny Glover. The film is riveting, and even while telling the story of Bat 2-1, it delves into the heart of Vietnam, where Bat 2-1 made his 18-hole sprint to freedom. Highly recommended. |

| See Jerry Lewis at the top of his game, along with the Count Basie Orchestra, and you have a virtual orgy for the senses. The supporting cast is top notch. However, the dip into the hipness of the era, via the Basie Orchestra really puts this fairytale over the top.

| Ever the champion for 70's movies, I loved the look back at the era this flick provided. I love Jerry Reed. Don't really care what he's doing, just enjoy his presence. Annnndddd that's about all the good I can say regarding this powerhouse display of no talent.
Burt is pushing the laid-back, oddball "Burt" laugh wayyyy too much, to the point of nausea. The lead investigator displays emotional reactions and facial expressions that are dramatically unnecessary. It's like he had emotive Turret's. Plot's as simple ... Read More: |

| Bernstein died shortly after this Candide was recorded in London, and it's as if the old master has put everything that made him really good into this - humor (especially the jokes about himself are nice), integrity, and, especially, passion. The music's great too, but the extra treat is the introduction he gives. Absolutely great. |
