This movie is perfection in every way. It is so perfect that I never get tired of watching it over and over again. We really have the impression of living in Jane Austen's time when watching that movie. All the actors are brilliant, above all Allison Steadman who is superb as Mrs. Bennet.
Hats off Andrew Davies, Sue Birtwistle and Simon Langton for such a "chef d'oeuvre".

After two dreadful DVD releases (the first and the 10th anniversary edition) in which all of the warmth had been drained from the glorious original 16mm print as seen on TV and on VHS, the BBC/A&E and 2 Entertain have finally repented and this, one of television's most beloved series has been restored to its former beauty. In 2005 I foolishly bought the 10th Anniversary Edition as the cover art-work suggested that the problems with the original transfer had been corrected. Upon viewing it, I wrote to ... Read More:

I just want to say that I agree with most of the reviewers here that it is a brilliant movie with equally brilliant actors. Captivating from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

Before the Rains beautifully captures the tragedy of sexual attraction between a master and his slave. The slave never wins! Nandita Das turns in a commendable performance as an infatuated young woman who perceives the attention of the debonair British man as true love

The main problem I have with this movie is the casting of Rahul Bose. It is almost painful to hear his malayalam (being a malayalee myself). Given the plethora of fantastic Malayalam movie industry actors some of whom were cast in ... Read More:

Brian Gilbert's "Wilde" stands as a realiable version of the Irish writer's later years. Wilde's relationship with Alfred Douglas, Robert Ross, his wife Constance and many other characters is consistent, and agrees with reports left by contemporaries who knew well Oscar Wilde and his circle. Good performances by Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Michael Sheen and Tom Wilkinson. The latter, as the marquis of Queensberry, is outstanding - although portraying such a clichéed character is obviously a much easier task than, say, the ... Read More:

Who cares about the "fifth" Beatle? WHAT FIFTH BEATLE? Hello.....there were only 4 Beatles as far as history goes! But to go so far as to spend over 2 hours exploring a guy who wasn't a Beatle of all. I would have much rather had seen what made McCartney and Lennon so prolific together. How did all that music start? Who got what idea first? Where was the genius in all of this? It was all so tacky! In this film Paul seems like a choir boy younger brother to the controlling Lennon. And while we're at it where the heck is Ringo in all of this? ... Read More:

Although this movie is beautifully filmed, I felt disappointed in the end and wished that I hadn't spent three hours watching it. It is interesting from a historical point of view, but there is only one genuinely good character in this movie (the father) and he dies fairly close to the beginning. Other characters seem to change drastically with no explanation. You have to sit through a gruesome torture scene and several incredibly ridiculous sex scenes and to me, in the end, it just wasn't worth it.

Wonderful good actors, specially Toby Stephens and Jennifer Ehle (big fan of the 2). Entertaining period movie, with family love and unity abounding. Still "love" comes out of this movie (Calypso's love to her husband came out in the end). Of course there are some entertainment which makes it a "light comedy, light drama" movie. Very good ending.

This is a movie I saw and loved so much that I bought a copy, after telling friends about it, and loaning it the inevitable happend........I never got it back. So I bought another copy and yes, it's that good. When I first started to watch the movie, I thought about a Town Called Alice, and the forced marches the Japenese made POW's do so many times. But this is a story of survival, hope, determation and a lot of joy and sadness along the way. YET, it is not a sad movie and no it's not a "chick flick"will it brings tears? I hope so, you should cry when you see ... Read More:
