| Before I bought this collection, I'd only ever seen one Chaplin film, "The Great Dictator". I liked it so much, I wanted a copy and at the time, this little set was on sale for half-off. I'd heard good things about "Limelight" and "Modern Times" as well, and so I figured,"What the heck?" and ordered the box set.

| What a glorious, uplifting movie this is. A great cri de coeur against war and hatered, and in favor of tolerance and peace. That the message it presents is, by this point, somewhat of a given does nothing to diminish its importance.

| This was a TERRIBLE movie. Richard Conte as Nick plays s HUGE sap in trying to avenge his father. I had problems with this movie on so many levels, and its all about apples. There is Ed who is working with Nick to delivery apples. from Fresno to SF in separate trucks. Nick gets a flat and Ed comes quick to change the tire. Nick arrives in SF,but now Ed is worlds away. | Unfortunately, I got this for my daughter, who is reading virtually all of the classic kids books. We were barely 30 seconds into this when she became angry at how far the film is from the book, making it into a kind of idiotic comedy rather than the subtle social commentary from the original, adding characters not in the book, etc. Moreover, many of the aspects of Jo's situations are changed in ridiculous ways, such as putting their occupancy of the school at risk as a plot device. | The reviews below do a fine job giving you an idea of the movie itself. I initially picked it up as I am a big fan of the TV show Early Edition. The movie does not disappoint with it's great writing, acting, and now infamous plot. Regardless of the show, the movie stands well on it's own.
