Having a region free DVD player (a must have with good volume of TV series coming from across the pond and beyond), I purchased the series (1-5) under the original title "Spooks" via a package offer on Amazon UK (FYI, a much less costly alternative even with the shipping to the USA).

I debated on whether to give this series 4-stars or 5. I am mid way through series 4 and I would rate the series on a whole to be very good-excellent.

*It may take an episode or 2 to become ... Read More:

The Last King of Scotland is both a showcase of superb acting performances and a taught, suspensful thriller. I highly recommend adding it to your collection.

Few people are familiar with Idi Amin, not one of the 20th Century's more famous dictators, but extremely bloody with an estimated 300,000 Ugandans killed under his regime. Forrest Whittaker deserves his oscar as the paranoid, playful despot capturing the ruthless side but also, most difficult, his playful side. There are superb ... Read More:

A point that might apply to every Shakespearean adaptation or appropriation reviewed here at Amazon.com: there is no such thing as "traditional Shakespeare," or "conceptual Shakespeare," or anything else. Shakespeare's plays never had a chance to develop a "tradition." They had their original performance conditions, and then saw immediate alteration and adaptation by the Restoration. Nahum Tate's "happy ending" King Lear, in which Lear lives and Cordelia marries Edgar, held the stage for 150 years. End ... Read More:

I was pleasantly surprised by the work by Puffy Combs in this movie. I remember seeing the play as a young man and it has not lost any of the positive impact that I learned from this story. Even though some of the scences were/are very negative and racially sterotypical, it has a positive story to tell even today to all races. Good movie for the whole family to watch and discuss afterwards.

The first season was smashing, and it looked as though the second season was going to be just as strong. But somewhere along the way the tone of the show changed, becoming more politically opinionated on the issues they are dealing with, and the characters becoming increasingly introspective.

This could have been a solid development, if well handled. Instead, we're treated to trite political comments with all the insight of a 60 Minutes expose, and an ever-changing group of characters who one by one lose sight ... Read More:

To be fair this is more of a composite review for series 3-5. I tend to agree with the reviewers who felt the series fell flat in series 3 (with the exception of the cliff hanger carried over from series 2). Things start to pick up in series 4 with the series 3 cliff hanger carry over. There is however, one episode where Adam goes under cover as a Syrian (speaking English with an Arab accent) that simply doesn't work.

In an earlier review I commented on how characters fell off the series, with a much greater frequency ... Read More:

I purchased this set for my husband who is a big fan of the MI-5 series. He said it was so good, he was afraid to watch the next series because he didn't want to be disappointed in comparison. Well, he watched volume 4 already and is looking forward to the next.

It was quite good but I'm getting tired of all the main characters leaving or getting killed off. Is it really necessary?

This, while not a big blockbuster, a-rated movie, is enjoyable to watch on a boring afternoon when you have nothing else going on. It's got some o.k. special effects, o.k. acting and an interesting plot, plus, on top of everything, it's got sexy Edward Burns in it which was primarily the main motivator for me to watch this movie. If Edward Burns wasn't in it, I think I would've just given it 3 stars but as it is, with him in it, the story becomes intriguing and makes it worth watching. I didn't see any other well-known actors in there, ... Read More:
