| This production is a beautiful show to watch. The cast is exciting, but so little French. So, if you do not pay too much attention to the pronunciation, then you will enjoy the creamy and lyric voice of Ms Netrebko, who portrays a strong Manon, dedicated to pleasure (see L'hotel de Transylvanie act). Villazon is, as always, very (some would say too much) involved in his character, but his voice was, at that time (2006), still responding (though he is asking too much). | What a difference blu-ray makes! If there was ever a production of an opera to want in stunning high defintion, it may be this one, and DG does not disappoint. The colors leap off the screen and the beautiful cast, costumes and scenery are just a feast to behold. The DTS-HD track is very good for the most part, occasionally the singers feel too close and there are occasional balance issues, but it is excellent for the most part.

| As it is very hard to match Karajan's Parsifal in music making terms,it is not easy to bypass music of Boehm/Nilsson/Windgassen Tristan dated 1966.In this wonderful DVD we have an excellent orchestra by Baremboim with a wet creamy grandeur which he does not acchieve for instance in Bruckner.Of course J.Meier is not B.Nilsson,but she works. | First off Im not a musician, what I say is like 90% of the reviews, just plain old subjective opinions based on individual taste. I do however have several recordings that I listen to quite often by the major interpreters and I find Barenboims in the middle of the pack on most of my favorites. Im not 100 positive but many times it sounds like he hits wrong notes in the harder sonatas and is unsure of himself at times also as can be expected as it seems he conducts more than he does virtuoso work. | For me this is the best Nupen's film about Jackie. It has "Who was Jacqueline du Pré?", "Interlude with Johannes Brahms" a previously unpublished interview and "Remembering Jacqueline du Pré". It's more than 3 hours of music and words of people who knew her best to enjoy and remember the best cello player of all times.

| If you love violin music or playing, you have to have this DVD. And if you love Maxim Vengerov, do not hesitate, just buy it. Watching Maxim play violin is very joyful, and his master class is also very interesting and educated to classical music lovers.
The video and sound are both good. |

| Sibelius was a failed virtuoso violinist. He poured his love for the violin into this concerto, which is full of difficulties beyond his own ability as a performer. It is a virtuoso concerto in the Romantic tradition, and in Vengerov it has found the ideal interpreter.
