| This is simply a wonderful production that will fill you with warmth every Christmas.
The actors are all first rate, with Patricia Neal, Richard Thomas, the late great Cleavon Little, and William Windom doing a phenomenal job. I know it sounds cliche,' but they just don't make 'em like this anymore. I watch this right around the 22nd or 23rd every year with a fire going and it never fails to move me. | I saw this in the theater in 1972 while restrained in the Marine Corps and was transported by the music, wide open desert spaces, anti-establishment themes, Kowalski's sense of fair play and nude hippie chicks on motorcycles. In other words all the freedoms I missed while being in the service. I really loved it then and was a little apprehensive about seeing it again as I wasn't sure it would hold up over the years. 36 years to be exact.

| I loved the movie. If you are a fan of the Vidal book, you'll be a fan of the movie as it follows the book closely. Sam Waterson is great as Lincoln. One minor problem for me is his portrayal of Lincoln's hair- it was too stylish. Lincoln's hair was messy. Mary Tyler Moore is spot on for Mrs. Lincoln. As others have noted, the transfer to DVD is not in good quality, but the film is still very watchable simply for the movie. |

| I say for the casual Mel Brooks fan, because that is what I am and it was perfect for me. You've got your best known Brooks films all right here. I ordered this when it was a DoD and I knew I was going to be off of work for a few weeks recovering from surgery. It was a perfect distraction.
To be honest, I ordered it mainly for Blazing Saddles, History of the World, Part 1 and Young Frankenstein. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed To Be or Not to Be and High Anxiety. That was a pleasant surprise. Read More: |

| Luckily they avoid completely revisiting old ground by setting this one in the South. It contains quite a few gags but the laughs are fewer and far between. It has a more serious look at some time honoured cliches about the South (evangelism, racism, quaintness) which may be less fair as time goes on, but as they say cliches exist for a reason. Chevy Chase's swansong and the last passable effort of his career - unless you want to count Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Buy the double CD with Fletch or else skip this one.
