| This is a sprightly and riotous take on The Barber. Its charm lies in the smooth integration of music, acting, and sets. It is there to entertain, and it sure does!
I am generally not a fan of `traditional' performances as the sets tend to be cluttered and the costumes unsexy. Or maybe it is just that many male singers look unappealing in tights... | I have only one beef with this performance: instead of a statue, the Commendatore's gravestone is a large black abstract sculpture, and during the dinner scene DonG tries to feed a small replica of it (actually wipes its "mouth" with a napkin).
Also in the first scene Matti Salminen shakes his buttocks at the audience in a completely inappropriate way. Other than that it's great. |

| While this is a delightful opera, I felt that the production was lacking in many ways. For one thing, Cecilia Bartoli does not look at all as Cinderella should. Mostly because she is obviously overweight, it's hard to see why the prince is SO captivated by her appearance. The prince himself did not look half as handsome (or young) as Prince Charming should, although I could forgive these small faults if those were my only objections to this recording. | Unfortunately I do not have enough musical knowledge to praise this artist. I wish I had for then honey would be dripping off her! This is the best I've listened to since Amelita Galli-Curci. Cicilia Bartoli will be well remembered into the 21st century as a Diva standing out amongst her peers - head and shoulders. Viva Vivaldi! is a wonderful DVD full of emotion, passion and outsanding talent. I've had hours of pure pleasure listening how Cicialia makes "Vivaldi at his best"! |

| This is colourful and funny and Bartoli is on top form as usual. This is my favourite Rossini opera, principally because in this opera, Rossini's musical writing appears very close to Mozart. When all is said and done though, Rossini is no Mozart and one can tire of Rossini. By contrast, Mozart's operas have something of the eternal about them. |
