This complex tale follows a magical violin from its tragic creation in 18th century Italy to its sale at a contemporary auction house in Montreal. Like any good movie, it requires the willing suspension of disbelief which for me was easy enough to do with the exception of Samuel L. Jackson playing the part of Charles Morritz, the violin expert. He is a wonderful actor but is totally miscast here. This is an entertaining film that weaves together several amusing vignettes accompanied by John Corigliano's ... Read More:

The Horseman On The Roof is a supurb timeless action packed classic set in a region of France where the writer Peter Mayle of Bon Appertite, A Year In provence etc now resides.

The acting of Juliette Binoche and Olivier Martinez does real justice to the plot in which danger, excitement, and passion unfold in a world ravaged by revolution and violence, and plague.

If only the sub-titles were also expressed in French, The Horseman On The Roof would make an excellent learning medium of the ... Read More:

I'm not going to go into any details, but I will say that I wish Amazon could refund the time I spent watching this movie. It looked like it would have promise but in the end it was a big dud. Watch it at your own risk!

deep, beautiful, poetic and haunting film with a soundtrack that underscores the story and which you can play without the movie, it will be a favorite to be played often. this film should not be called a "gay" film, it's not. it's a deeply human story about real men living in real life, and women and family. calling it a gay film is to trivialize the film artistically, its message and its power.
