| There is a clever juxtaposition of avant garde staging/theatrical setting with period subject material. The Queen of the Night is downright hot, not to mention the 3 maids. Pappageno stole the ovation! Although a small part, Pappagena is delightful. Regrettably, I don't know what to say about Tamino and Pamina but I'm sure they were great.

| After I bought the Ladies in Lavender I had to buy Johuas Bell music.
I heard him play the Brahms violinconcert april 2003 and became a fan. One period in my life I almost hated violin music maybe because I was playing the piano with my brother violin. Later I heard the Busch quartet play , and later I heard Isac Stern and Menuhin play in concerts. The music Johua plays in wonderful and he plays beutifully. |

| The Chocolate Drops are good for their age and will improve as they grow older and have more instructions and practice. I have heard better young people as well as many who were not as good. Again I say that with more practice and exposure they will be one of the better groups in the near future. |

| There are many videos of Bayreuth performances, but this was the first. For that reason alone, it's worth watching; fortunately it isn't the only reason.
Unlike later recordings, this one includes curtain calls. I think this was an excellent decision, since it evokes the thrill of being part of a Bayreuth audience. | I first bought this album back in '84 as an LP. I had long been a fan of Talking Heads and was curious of this new piece of material by Byrne. The person behind the counter of the music store warned me that this most likely would not be what I expected - this was no ordinary Byrne music, he said. And indeed it was not!
