| I bought as much of this new series of Sonatas as I could get hold of after listening short excerpts. Mr Schiff provides quite a wonderful, new and fresh interpretation of these great works, but unfortunately he tends to spoil some of the wonder by literally hammering out his fortissimo passages in a way that might even surprise and upset those of us who value interpretation that is true to the presumed playing style prevalent during Beethoven's lifetime.

| These two players have serious chops, and they are certainly on display here! While these guys can tear it up speed wise, you don't get the sense that they are just noodling. At the same time, the compositions are challenging for me. This is not background music, it demands attention.
Partly because of the freedom that the players feel to use dissonance, and plenty of it. The other part that makes it challenging for me is the freedom of their melodic improvisation. There are few predictable song patterns ... Read More: |

I thought that Couperin, Rameau, Dulphy, d'Anglebert et alii, eventually Bach (by extension, given that he copied so well the French style...) were all that needed to be listen too (I happened to be French and an harpsichord lover). France Musiques - in a concerted action of acculturation I suspect - broadcast a wonderful piece of Purcell performed by Egarr. | I saw this DVD directly on a PBS station on TV and thanks to Amazon I found it to purchase it for my Mom for Christmas. I absolutely love Andre Rieu, I love his music, and specially in this DVD, the wonderful scenes of Vienna just made it on of the best ever. Absolutely recommend it to everyone. |
