[His last recordings were appropriately of Richard Strauss Richard Strauss: Sonata, Op. 5; 5 Piano .] Gould had never before played Brahms' Ballades. | A bit out of characteristic for Glenn Gould's style, but the selection and the performances are nonethless stunning. My favorite is the opening piece by Bach, although Brahm's and Strauss works are just as captivating. It's evident that the pianist is malleable to diverse interpretation and artistry. |

| Many years ago, I bought this Rubinstein as an album and Van Cliburn's "My Favorite Chopin." I still love them both, but the warmth in Rubinstein's playing is the gold standard. This is a wonderful compilation from the master. |
