| I sit here at my computer and try to think of superlatives adequate to accurately describe this album....and there just aren't any. It is worthy to be the best selling classical album of all time....but it's more than that. It's just a must have, a collection to soothe the savage breast. For those times when I have lost hope, when I am past care.....I will sit with closed eyes and listen to this. And revive my soul..... |

| Fantastic - I bought this recording to acquaint myself with Thais before seeing the Met in HD live broadcast (http://www.metoperafamily.org/metopera/broadcast/hd_events_next.aspx) and have absolutely fallen in love with the story, the music, the singing, the arias, the duets... I could go on and on! The journey from earthly to divine love is fraught with both tender and intense emotion, and as I listen more and more I am drawn further and further in. | Everybody knows that Anna is one of the reigning sopranos of our day...gorgeous voice...pop star looks and charisma. Here, she has given us a good selection of her favorite pieces, in multiple languages...it was worth the effort.

| So far (sure it will be more and more) this is the best Netrebko collection. What a beautiful voice and dignifying performances (the rest of the singer too). It is hard to pick a favorite selection and, at the end, it unnecessary: from Kálmán to Arditi deserve to be heard once and once. Superb.
Deluxe Edition worth the price and, for a fan, the DVD and the rest of stuff is more than a bonus. A must, again. |

| My youthful memories of Christmas are rekindled by this masterpiece written directly for television. And amazingly, in a very short span of time. As a child of the 50s & 60s, "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will always stay in my heart. This was a huge part of my childhood Christmas tradition year after year.
I couldn't quite give this recording any higher rating than four stars though, due to the reproductive quality of the old mono sound. But I would still recommend it for the most part. Probably not ... Read More: |

| The first time I sampled this, I thought it was a bit 'corny' but I still bought it because of the very many recommendations it received.
I did not regret my decision because after hearing the whole album with my kids, I was just delighted to see them respond to each song so well so much so that after a few days of listening to it, they can already sing the lyrics. Hearing them hum the tunes while playing always brings a smile to my face. Anything to make kids genuinely appreciate the beauty ... Read More: |

One caveat, if you're using Hanning's Concise Grout as a companion text, be sure to match the correct edition of the anthology + recordings to the correct edition of the text. |

| I heard this CD on a PBS pledge drive (it was a premium) and found myself loving every cut on it! I was in my car and just wanted to keep on driving and listening. This is by far my most-played CD - I've had to make it a weekend only listen to prevent getting burned out on it. HIGHLY recommend it. Even if you are unfamiliar with some of the pieces, you will quickly learn to love them. . . . I must end this review - I'm off to listen to the "flower duet" for the 100th time. . . |

| Although some of the most ardent opera buffs will still prefer Beecham, this is really the version to turn to for most people. This is quite simply Pavarotti's best role, full of vigour and poetry. If one really wished to find something to pick on, it would perhaps be that he only rarely seems willing to sing quietly, but the feeling (in particular the desperation) and warmth he brings to the role is, as far as I know, unmatched.
