| I possess a true hot-and-cold kind of relationship with Dean Koontz. Many of his books have stayed with me, often like the memory of a beautiful poem. Watchers, Odd Thomas, and Seize the Night were terrific! My favorite aspect of Koontz is that he can bring true light to the darkest of characters, to the sorriest of scenes. His characters have always had depth. Whether they were insane or truly altruistic, I could always feel their emotions. I could imagine myself in the scene.

| From what I have read of negative reviews here- most people who don't like the book don't like it because they disagree with it. The idea itself is quite controversial, and I'm not sure I fully agree with Gladwell, but the manner in which he presents it is entertaining and enjoyable to read. His anecdotes do show some examples where "thin slicing" can come quite in handy, but he doesn't say this should overrule thought out processes- his point is that sometimes we can "thin slice" and be right, when overanalyzing leads ... | Don't know what it is about this book, but it is amazing. The illustrations are repetative, the text sometimes ridiculous, ("goodnight nobody"?!) But it works magic. It simply reads like a lullaby. My children have each loved it as toddlers, and number six is proving to be no exception. (We have bought her a new copy as our old one is falling apart from being so well loved!) |

| David Sedaris is a talented writer, but his work in this tome is inconsistent. It all goes down smoothly, but never rises to the level of "Dress Your Children in Denim and Corduroy." Each of these short essays was previously published elsewhere and they don't quite come together as an anthology. |
